http://mcgeek.com en-us 5cience 0.4 Gotham Book Mart, I miss Cedar Tavern, I miss a dirty east side, I miss wanton, open dysfunction, I miss a blissful lack of media savvy, I miss people willing to unionize and get drunk at lunch. Like every one else, I don't miss CBGB's, but I miss the idea of CBGB's. After my half gripe about the west coast, I for some reason kept thinking about Gotham Book Mart, which closed last year. Why am I dwelling on an old bookstore that didn't care about much about making money? Iconic, sure. I miss a population eager to spend a day rummaging in a used book store. They may still exist, but now they're spread out, across the country, and rummage electronically. Not as good. Not visceral. No texture. No mold.
